Full job description

Are you an experienced English Language Teaching (ELT) professional looking to take the next step in your academic management career?

Chaucer College is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Assistant Director of Studies (ADOS) to help lead our academic team and ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning for our international students.

Working closely with the Director of Studies, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the teaching department, supporting teachers, developing academic programmes, delivering professional development, and helping to maintain the quality standards expected of an accredited UK English language school.

About the Role

As Assistant Director of Studies, you will:

The ADOS is responsible for the day-to-day running of the teaching department in a UK English language school’
Line manage the Senior Teacher, teaching staff and support the wider academic team.
Coordinate teacher timetables and organise cover for planned and unplanned absences.
Lead lesson observations, teacher appraisals and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Write and maintain course syllabuses in line with British Council and British Accreditation Council quality standards.
Monitor student academic progress and support induction, placement and assessment.
Meet regularly with Group Leaders to ensure programmes meet expectations and address academic feedback.
Assist with teacher recruitment, induction and academic planning.
Act as the school's Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), promoting a strong safeguarding culture and deputising for the Director of Studies when required.
Undertake a limited amount of teaching, primarily for cover purposes.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

Essential

Level 7 qualification relevant to ELT management or TESOL (such as an MA TESOL, MA Applied Linguistics or equivalent). TEFLQ
Significant experience teaching English to adult and/or young adult learners.
Experience supervising or coordinating teachers within an ELT environment.
Experience conducting lesson observations and providing developmental feedback.
Experience designing or delivering teacher training and CPD.
Experience writing or maintaining syllabuses within an established curriculum.
Excellent organisational and timetabling skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Cultural awareness and experience working with international students.
Deputy DSL training, or a willingness to complete this before taking up the role.

Desirable

Experience in a British Council accredited English language school.
Experience contributing to British Council inspections.
Experience working with sessional teachers and seasonal programmes.
Experience using student management systems.
A second language.

Pay: £34,000.00 per year
