Brain Injury Support Worker

South Benfleet | £14,944.80 per annum (£12.77 per hour) | 22.5 hours per week | Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday

Are you a compassionate, patient and enthusiastic person who enjoys helping others build confidence, develop skills and live as independently as possible?

We’re looking for a Brain Injury Support Worker to join our friendly and dedicated team at our day centre in South Benfleet, supporting adults living with the effects of acquired brain injury (ABI).

This is a varied and rewarding role where you’ll build meaningful relationships and help people make progress towards their individual goals. Whether it’s helping someone regain confidence, develop a new skill, communicate more effectively, reconnect socially or take part in an activity they enjoy, you’ll see the impact of your support.

What will you be doing?

Working as part of our supportive team, you’ll:

Plan and deliver engaging, purposeful activities based on individual needs, interests and goals.
Support people to develop confidence, skills and independence.
Act as a Key Worker, helping individuals identify meaningful goals, develop person-centred support plans and review their progress.
Build positive, trusting relationships with the people we support, their families and carers.
Provide guidance and support to family members and carers where appropriate.
Work alongside health, social care and other professionals and organisations.
Maintain accurate and confidential computerised records.
Work collaboratively as part of the Headway Essex 1Team, sharing ideas, knowledge and expertise with colleagues, volunteers and trustees.
Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone is treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who is:

Compassionate and patient, with a genuine desire to help others.
Approachable and a good communicator, able to build positive relationships with people.
Reliable and organised, with good time-management skills.
Creative and enthusiastic, with the ability to make activities meaningful and engaging.
Comfortable using computers and maintaining accurate records.
Able to work calmly and positively when things don’t always go to plan.
Committed to promoting choice, independence and person-centred support.

Experience of acquired brain injury would be desirable, but we’re also interested in people with transferable experience from other health, social care, rehabilitation, education, mental health or people-focused roles.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

At least 2 years’ experience in a health and/or social care setting, and/or
NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, or
A relevant qualification or degree, such as Psychology.

GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 or above, or equivalent, are required.

The practical details

Location: South Benfleet

Hours: 22.5 hours per week

Working days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

Working hours: 8.30am – 4.30pm

Salary: £14,944.80 per annum (£12.77 per hour)

You will need the right to live and work in the UK, two suitable referees and be able to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Criminal Records Check.
