Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Apprentice Learning Support Assistant to join our educational team. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting children's learning and development, particularly those with experience or interest in special education. The role involves working closely with children to promote inclusive learning environments, fostering their social and academic growth. The ideal candidate will be committed, compassionate, and eager to develop their skills within a supportive setting.

To work under the direction of teaching staff to support the learning, development, wellbeing and inclusion of pupils, enabling them to achieve their full potential. The postholder will provide targeted support to individuals and groups of pupils, contribute to raising attainment and promote positive behaviour and engagement across the school.

Support for Pupils

· Support pupils in accessing learning activities within the classroom and through targeted interventions.

· Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning, develop confidence and promote independence.

· Develop positive and professional relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and promoting high expectations.

· Support the implementation, monitoring and review of individual targets, learning plans and support strategies.

· Assist in meeting pupils' personal, social, emotional and behavioural needs, promoting wellbeing and positive engagement.

· Support pupils with SEND, including those with EHCPs, ensuring reasonable adjustments and appropriate interventions are implemented.

· Contribute to inclusive practice, ensuring all pupils can access learning and participate fully in school life.

· Deliver planned interventions and structured learning activities under the direction of teaching staff.

· Support pupils during transitions, educational visits, enrichment activities and wider school events.

· Assist with personal care, medical and physical needs where appropriate training has been undertaken.

Support for Teaching and Learning

· Work collaboratively with teachers to support high-quality teaching and learning.

· Assist with the preparation, adaptation and organisation of learning resources and classroom materials.

· Monitor, record and report on pupil progress, attainment, behaviour and wellbeing.

· Provide feedback to teaching staff to inform planning, assessment and next steps in learning.

· Support the effective management of behaviour in line with school policies and procedures.

· Promote positive attitudes towards learning and encourage pupil participation and engagement.

· Provide short-term classroom supervision in the unexpected absence of the teacher, where appropriate and in line with school policy.

· Support assessment activities, including routine marking, administering tests and assisting with examinations.

· Contribute to maintaining a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment.

Support for the Curriculum

· Assist in the delivery of curriculum activities across a range of subjects and key stages.

· Deliver targeted intervention programmes to support literacy, numeracy and wider curriculum development.

· Support the use of digital technologies and ICT to enhance teaching and learning.

· Promote pupils' personal development, character education and wider participation in school life.

· Support the delivery of safeguarding, wellbeing, equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives across the school.

Working with Parents, Carers and Professionals

· Contribute to effective communication with parents, carers and external agencies as directed by teaching staff.

· Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to support pupil outcomes.

· Participate in meetings relating to pupil progress, support and wellbeing where appropriate.

Professional Responsibilities

The postholder will:

· Work in accordance with all school policies, procedures and statutory requirements.

· Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.

· Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

· Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

· Participate in training, supervision, appraisal and continuous professional development activities.

· Maintain positive and effective working relationships with colleagues, pupils, parents and external stakeholders.

· Take reasonable care for the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others.

· Hold a valid First Aid qualification or be willing to undertake First Aid training.
