Children’s Outreach WorkerSalary: £28,000k - £32,000k per annum pro-rata (depending on qualifications and experience)
Hours: Part time – 21 hours per week, - fixed term contract 3 years
Location: Colliers Wood
Benefits: Government pension scheme, onsite parking, holiday entitlement 22 days pro rata

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to develop social and peer support activities and to promote the take up of statutory and voluntary services for children with hearing loss in Merton. The post will involve working with community and minority ethnic groups. You must have excellent communication and people skills. You will work as part of an Outreach team.

Children’s Outreach Worker

Children’s Outreach Worker for deaf Children and Young People

The purpose of the role

- To encourage inclusive deaf sports, exercise and well-being.

- To organise and run monthly activity sessions for deaf children and young people (CYP) and their parents/carers.

- To organise opportunities for deaf peer interaction outside of school hours.

Job Description

Plan and organise a number of programmes of activities for deaf CYP.
Maintain regular contact with young people and their families.
Maintain a current and accurate database of all young people using the project
and share the data with Merton Sensory Support Services (MSSS).
Involve the young people in the planning and monitoring of activities.
Supervise and plan sessional workers tasks.
Ensure that all activities are risk assessed and any risks identified are minimised.
Keep accurate financial records and work within set budgets.
Keep records of any significant incidents and accidents.
Keep accurate records to enable evaluation, and provide such reports written or verbal as from time to time may be required.
Develop policies and ground rules to promote the smooth running of the project.
Undertake such activities as may be required to promote and develop the project.
To work within MertonVision’s standards, policies and procedures and code of conduct, in particular policies and procedures which relate to safeguarding children, health and safety practice and equal opportunities.
To undertake any other duties consistent with the post.
Ensure activities are appropriately differentiated for deaf CYP.
Work with both mainstream and specialist providers locally and nationally to extend the range of social events on offer.
Work with local mainstream providers to ensure activities are suitably modified
Support a method of enabling young people and their families to stay in touch between sessions.

Person Specification

Essential

· Proven experience of working with children and young people aged 5 -25 years

· An Enhanced DBS

· Ability to work on own initiative

· Ability to communicate effectively with young people, their families and professionals who are working with them

· A proven commitment to involve young people in the planning of the project

· Experience of using and maintaining a database

· A willingness to undertake regular deaf awareness training

Desirable

· Direct experience of working with deaf children

· Experience of working with children with additional disabilities

· Lived experience of deafness

· BSL Skills

Personal

· Able to understand and make a commitment to a code of confidentiality.

· A mature, self-motivated and confident person able to relate well to children and young people who are deaf from diverse cultures.

· To participate in all aspects of the job to meet the needs of people who are deaf.

· The ability to work well and proactively within a small team.

· Ability to handle difficult situations calmly.

Additional information:

· Training for Level 3 Safeguarding training could be offered as part of job

· Training in Pediatric first aid could be offered as part of job.

Pay: £28,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
