Full job description

The Nut Tree, Worle is looking for a Sous Chef who wants more responsibility, a real say in the menu, and a kitchen worth being proud of. This isn't a "stand at the pass and survive service" job... you'll be helping to manage of a busy, quality focused pub kitchen, running a menu built on proper technique and honest, local ingredients, and an exciting wood fired outside oven!

You'll work closely with our Head Chef to run day to day kitchen operations, deputise fully in their absence, and help shape where the food goes next; including our wood fired pizza oven and seasonal menus.

What You'll Be Doing

Running service and leading service, stepping into Head Chef responsibilities on their days off
Managing the wood fired oven - pizzas, breads, and specials.
Ordering, stock control, and supplier relationships, keeping food costs on target without cutting corners on quality
Training and mentoring junior chefs and kitchen porters, setting the standard for the section
Owning food safety and compliance - EHO standards, Safer Food Better Business, allergen management, temperature logs
Contributing to menu development, specials, and seasonal changes - we want your ideas, not just your hands
Maintaining kitchen standards during Head Chef absence, including opening/closing procedures and rota management for your shifts

What We're Looking For

At least 2 years' experience as a Chef de Partie or Sous Chef in a quality led kitchen - pub, restaurant, or hotel background all welcome
Confident working unsupervised under pressure, not just following instructions
Genuine interest in bread, dough, or wood-fired cooking (training provided if you haven't worked a wood-fired oven before, but enthusiasm for it matters)
Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate as a minimum (Level 3 an advantage)
A track record of training or supervising junior staff
Someone who takes pride in a clean, organised, well run pass and holds others to the same standard
Full flexibility across weekends and evenings; this is a hospitality role and Saturday nights are Saturday nights

We're part of a small, hands on family run business that invests in it's kitchens and its people, and we're looking for someone who wants to grow with us, not just clock in and out.

Pay: £28,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
