About us

Hill Tots House Day Nursery are looking for an experienced and qualified Nursery practitioner to join their busy Flying Start team. The ideal candidate must be qualified to NVQ Level level 3 and have at least 2 years experience in a childcare setting. The role is a 16-18 hours Term - Time contract. JOB TITLE: Flying Start Nursery Practitioner

REPORTING TO: Nursery Manager

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

To act as a Key worker in the Flying Start Team
To ensure a high standard of physical, personal, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children in their care.
To give support to other team members within their immediate room and within the wider nursery.
To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all children can play, learn and develop.

Key Areas:

Work with children and support children’s education and development.
Lead the planning of safe, creative and appropriate learning opportunities.
Ensure room and equipment is kept in good working order.
Liaise with Parents/Carers.
Ensure all activity and practices in room adheres to CIW best practice and Hill Tots House Day Nursery’s policies and procedures.
To report regularly to the Nursery Manager/Flying Start Supervisor and keep them updated.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To keep records of your key children’s development and daily diaries, share this with parents, carers and other key adults in the child’s life and institute reviews for parents in conjunction with the Nursery Manager.
Ensure relevant information about children’s activities and development are up to date
Attend Flying Start Planning meetings and broader team meetings.
Support your team and engage in good team working.
Ensure all record keeping is accurate and up-to-date within your designated area, including development trackers, progress reports and daily diaries of all children in you room, accident forms and any other forms/records required for the child’s welfare, learning and development.
Ensure room checks and outdoor checks are conducted in line with nursery procedures and Health and Safety requirements.
Liaise with and support your key parents and other family members.
To be involved in out of working hours activities e.g. training, staff meetings, room meetings, parents evening, other nursery events.
Undertake and organise certain domestic jobs within the nursery e.g. preparation of snacks, meals, cleansing of equipment and other such duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Nursery Manager.
Participate in training programmes as required by Flying Start and the Nursery.
Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the nursery philosophy is fulfilled.
Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role as deemed appropriate for the needs of young children.
Ensure someone known and agreed by the nursery and parent collects each child.
To ensure confidentiality within your room.
Any other duties deemed appropriate by the Nursery Manager/Centre Manager/BTRT.

General:

Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Centre.
Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
Notify the Line Manager as soon as possible of inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
Abide by internal policies and procedures.
Ensure all equipment is cleaned and well maintained.
Participate in staff meetings as required.
Attend mandatory training days, on or off site, as and when required.
Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE& PERSONAL SKILLS:

Good communication skills with a range of customers, partners and staff
Responding appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise and dealing with the consequence
Good timekeeping and organisational skills.
Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team
Understanding of relevant statutory and regulatory frameworks (e.g. H&S)
Good numeracy and literacy skills
Must be reliable
Committed to ongoing professional development

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

Minimum Level 3 Childcare qualification (or working towards).

Safeguarding.

Experience

At least 3 years of experience working in an early years setting.
Experience of working in partnership with parents.
Experience of working in an Early Years Setting at supervisory level.
Experience of working within the Flying Start provision (desirable).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Have extensive working knowledge of the Birth to Three programme and its implications for children’s development through observation, assessment and record keeping; a good understanding of statutory requirements.
Be able to communicate effectively at all levels including professional, practitioner level and to engage with children, parents and families.
Demonstrate good record keeping, report writing and presentational skills.
Be able to conform to all policies and procedures.
Have the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Be an effective leader and work as part of a team.
Have good organisational, planning and time management skills.
Be a team player with a resilient and flexible approach to adapt to change and deal with emergencies or unforeseen events.
Knowledge of Flying Start planning and continuous provision (desirable).
Be able to action and monitor all child protection and health and safety issues according to our policies and procedures.
Have knowledge and understanding of the SEN Code of Practice.
