The Edventure Project CIC is looking for a warm, grounded, enthusiastic and reliable Youth Mentor to join our small team supporting our wonderful community of young people.
Edventure is a family-run Community Interest Company based in Coalpit Heath, South Gloucestershire. We provide inclusive community spaces for Home Educated and flexi-schooled young people, as well as young people experiencing EBSA, SEND and neurodivergence, and some young people accessing EOTAS arrangements.
We are a community organisation – not a school or Alternative Learning Provision.
Our approach is relationship-led, neurodiversity-affirming and centred around connection, belonging, confidence, wellbeing and life skills.
No two Edventure days are quite the same! You might find yourself creating art, cooking lunch, building a den, playing football, helping with gardening, sitting alongside a young person who needs some quiet co-regulation, heading into the woods, supporting friendships or getting involved in one of the young people's latest ideas.
We're looking for somebody who understands that sometimes the most important part of youth work isn't doing something at all – it's being a safe, consistent adult who takes the time to listen.
The Role
As a Tribe Mentor, you will:
- Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people.
- Provide calm, consistent and compassionate mentoring and support.
- Help young people develop confidence, friendships, communication, independence and life skills.
- Support neurodivergent young people and those with a range of SEND and emotional/regulation needs.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to dysregulation, anxiety and individual sensory needs.
- Use relational, restorative and co-regulation approaches rather than punitive behaviour management.
- Help plan and facilitate creative, practical, outdoor, wellbeing and community-based activities.
- Support cooking, shared lunches and everyday life-skills activities.
- Encourage young people's interests and ideas rather than following a rigid curriculum.
- Support safe staffing ratios, supervision and safeguarding.
- Contribute to risk assessments and safe working practices.
- Work closely with the wider Edventure team and communicate appropriately with families.
- Help set up, tidy and care for our spaces and equipment.
- Join us on occasional trips, outdoor activities and Edventure adventures.
Who We're Looking For
Experience working with children or young people is important, but the right person matters enormously to us.
You may come from youth work, mentoring, SEND, pastoral support, Forest School, community work, education, teaching-assistant or HLTA work, wellbeing or a similar background.
You should be:
- warm, kind and approachable
- calm and confident when things become challenging
- genuinely interested in young people's thoughts and interests
- comfortable supporting neurodivergent young people
- playful and able to have fun!
- happy getting outdoors and occasionally muddy
- able to take initiative while working as part of a small team
- understanding of professional boundaries and safeguarding
- inclusive and non-judgemental
- reliable and able to commit consistently to your agreed working day(s).
Because we're a small team, consistency really matters. Our young people build strong relationships with trusted adults and our staffing arrangements are carefully planned, so we need somebody who can make a genuine commitment to their regular Edventure day.
Qualifications & Training
Previous relevant qualifications are welcomed, but we are also interested in the right person with the right values and experience.
Training or qualifications in any of the following would be particularly useful:
- Safeguarding Children
- Paediatric or Emergency First Aid
- Forest School
- Youth Work
- SEND / Autism / ADHD
- Mental Health & Wellbeing
- Food Hygiene
- Teaching Assistant / HLTA
- Trauma-informed or relational practice.

Hours & Pay
£14.75 per hour basic pay (21 yrs +)
Plus 12.07% holiday pay, paid separately and clearly identified on your payslip.
This gives an approximate total payment of £16.53 per hour including holiday pay.
The role is currently:
5.5–11 hours per week
Wednesday is essential
Potential for an additional regular day
Typical hours 9:15am–2:45pm
This is a part-year position, working according to The Edventure Project's annual calendar.
There may occasionally be opportunities for additional paid hours through holiday sessions, trips, events or other Edventure projects.
