Gateshead Leisure Centre Salary: £13-£17 per hour + overtime opportunities
Gateshead Leisure Centre is looking for a motivated and reliable Swim Teacher and Lifeguard to join our team. This is a dual-role position combining lifeguard responsibilities with delivering high-quality swimming lessons, with flexibility required across the week including evenings and weekends.
This is a hands-on role at the heart of a busy leisure facility. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all pool users while delivering engaging and structured swim lessons that promote water confidence and skill development.
Key Responsibilities: · Maintain constant surveillance of pool areas to ensure swimmer safety · Enforce pool rules and safety procedures at all times · Respond quickly and effectively to incidents and emergencies · Carry out rescues, first aid, and CPR when required · Deliver structured swim lessons to a range of ages and abilities · Plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs · Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and constructive feedback · Create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment · Complete safety checks, set up equipment, and maintain high standards · Communicate effectively with customers, parents, and team members
About You: · Current Lifeguard Qualification · Swim Teacher / Instructor qualification (or working towards) · Current First Aid and CPR certification · Strong communication and interpersonal skills · Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure · A proactive, reliable, and customer-focused approach · Experience in teaching swimming or working in a leisure environment is preferred
Desirable (but not essential): · Previous experience teaching children and/or adults · Strong knowledge of water safety and swimming techniques
