Client Manager – Accountancy Practice
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Client Manager to join a well-established accountancy practice based in Oswestry.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is confident reviewing accounts and tax work, managing client relationships, supporting junior members of staff, and overseeing work through to completion.
The Role
As Client Manager, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients and ensuring work is completed accurately, professionally and within agreed deadlines. You will review accounts and tax work prepared by junior staff, deal directly with clients, and support the wider team with training, workflow and technical queries.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and finalise accounts prepared by Accounts Assistants.
- Review tax returns, VAT returns and related client work.
- Clear final queries directly with clients.
- Ensure HMRC deadlines and internal time limits are met.
- Advise clients on tax, bookkeeping, systems and general business improvements.
- Inform clients of amounts due to HMRC.
- Prepare bills and support the billing process.
- Manage workflow from work being booked in through to completion, billing and debt collection.
- Support and develop junior members of staff.
- Review work completed by assistants before partner/director approval.
- Lead designated team members and assist with appraisals where required.
- Attend management meetings and communicate relevant updates to the team.
- Help identify opportunities to offer additional services to both new and existing clients.
- Represent the firm professionally at client meetings and networking events where required.
- Deal with HMRC, Companies House, banks and other third parties.
- Support improvements to internal systems and working processes.
About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience working within an accountancy practice and will be confident managing client relationships and reviewing work.
You will ideally have:
- Experience reviewing accounts and tax work within practice.
- Strong client management skills.
- Good technical knowledge across accounts, tax and VAT.
- The ability to support and develop junior staff.
- Strong organisation and workflow management skills.
- A professional and confidential approach.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
