Chartered Occupational Hygienist – (Technical Lead and Mentor)
Home based, (with potentially ad-hoc visits to construction site locations around Wendover, Aylesbury, Bicester and Brackley).
Part-Time on an Associate / Consultancy basis (c 5 days per month).
Working for our client, engaged in a major infrastructure construction project, we have an exciting opportunity for a Chartered Occupational Hygienist to act as the technical lead for a small Occupational Hygiene Team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support a team of 2 in-training Occupational Hygienists, providing direct mentorship and technical supervision, support any performance management, and ongoing coaching. Guiding their professional development towards further BOHS qualifications and Chartership, through regular one-to-one meetings, occassional accompanying site visits and performance reviews,
Ensure technical rigor and provide input to and final sign-off on advice given to the client and on Occupational Hygiene survey reports issued, in alignment with Client, industry and legislative standards and guidelines.
Provide input into annual strategic actions, agreed with the client, and carry out regular analysis, monitoring and reporting on the progress of these actions.
Determine the priorities and focus of Occupational Hygiene monitoring, surveying and awareness training in line with planned construction programmes.
Contribute to the development and delivery of targeted training and awareness presentations on appropriate topics.
Provide advice and expertise, to the Team and the Client, on any novel or complex exposure / risk assessment scenarios.
Qualifications and Experience
- Chartered Occupational Hygienist status, through the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), holding the Diploma of Professional Competence in Occupational Hygiene (Dip.Occ.Hyg.) or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of post-qualification, practical experience gained in occupational hygiene consultancy or industry.
- A demonstrable track-record of supporting, training, and supervising junior staff.
- Exceptional technical writing capabilities with a portfolio demonstrating examples of complex risk assessments and exposure evaluations.
- Communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, complex and technical topics to a wide range of audience.
- Demonstrate an in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of UK occupational health and safety legislation.
- Experience in the construction industry is desirable but not essential, more important will be an ability to apply knowledge in a practical and pragmatic way.
