Dinner Lady & Cleaner (Combined Role)
Covered Services is recruiting on behalf of an Alternative Provision based in Luton for a reliable, organised, and hardworking individual to join the team in a combined Dinner Lady & Cleaner role.
Location: Luton
Start Date: 1st September 2026
Contract Type: Term Time Only (38 Weeks Per Year)
Hours: 22.5 Hours Per Week
Hourly Rate: £13.50 Per Hour
Annual Salary: Approx. £11,542 Per Year
Working Pattern: Monday – Thursday
Transport Requirement: Ideally must have access to own vehicle
About the Role
This is an important role within a SEND/SEMH educational provision supporting young people with additional needs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Preparing approximately 30–50 lunches daily (numbers may increase over time)
- Purchasing weekly lunch ingredients within budget
- Maintaining kitchen hygiene and food safety standards
- Cleaning the full building and outdoor areas daily
- Ensuring the provision is spotless and prepared for the next school day
There is also scope for the right candidate to increase their hours by supporting additional practical sessions within the provision, including:
- Cooking activities
- Horticulture / gardening sessions
- Learner enrichment activities
This role would suit somebody who:

- takes pride in cleanliness,

- has good organisation skills,
- and enjoys working within an educational environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesLunch Preparation
- Prepare and serve lunches daily
- Maintain food quality and portion control
- Follow food hygiene procedures
- Purchase and manage weekly food stock
- Cater for dietary requirements where necessary
Cleaning Responsibilities
- Clean classrooms, communal spaces, toilets, and staff areas
- Hoover, mop, and sanitise surfaces
- Maintain outdoor cleanliness
- Empty bins and manage waste
- Prepare the provision ready for the following day

- Monday – Chicken Strips & Mac and Cheese

- Wednesday – Burgers & Chips
- Thursday – Pasta Dishes
Person Specification
We are looking for somebody who:
- Is reliable and punctual
- Has good hygiene standards
- Can cook basic meals confidently
- Can work within a budget
- Is proactive and organised
- Has a positive attitude
- Is comfortable working in a SEND/SEMH environment
Experience in catering, hospitality, school kitchens, or cleaning is beneficial but not essential.
Food Hygiene qualifications are desirable.
