We are seeking an experienced and proactive Site Manager to oversee a project at the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day site operations, maintaining health and safety standards, coordinating site teams, and ensuring project programmes remain on track.
Key Responsibilities
Site Management & Programme Delivery
- Manage daily site operations and maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries and site logs.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure project programmes are achieved and key milestones met.
- Lead collaborative planning activities and coordinate site resources effectively.
- Ensure site labour and subcontractors are allocated tasks and productivity is monitored.
- Monitor weather conditions and assess impacts on programme and site safety.
- Assist with quality assurance inspections and snagging processes as required.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with CDM regulations and company health and safety procedures.
- Ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) are current, reviewed, and communicated to the workforce.
- Maintain the site risk register and monitor control measures.
- Complete and record weekly site safety inspections and Friday Safety Walks.
- Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings as required.
- Monitor PPE compliance, noise exposure, and HAVS records.
- Record, investigate, and distribute details of near misses, accidents, and incidents.
- Ensure Fire Risk Assessments (FRA) are completed, reviewed, and displayed.
Documentation & Site Records
- Maintain accurate document control systems and ensure all permits are valid, up to date, and uploaded.
- Manage operative and visitor inductions and maintain induction records.
- Monitor CSCS card validity and workforce competency records.
- Maintain COSHH registers and ensure storage facilities are correctly stocked and managed.
- Keep records of utility usage, including water and electricity consumption.
- Maintain logs for tool inspections, scaffold inspections, scaffold tags, hoist inspections, and maintenance records.
- Ensure defect registers are maintained and actions are closed out promptly.
Site Logistics & Welfare
- Ensure site set-up complies with project requirements and statutory obligations.
- Maintain site signage, statutory notices, and information boards.
- Develop and communicate traffic management plans where required.
- Manage waste operations, ensuring skips are correctly positioned and waste transfer documentation is maintained.
- Monitor site plant and equipment, ensuring defects and issues are reported and resolved promptly.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Site Manager within the construction industry.
- SMSTS qualification.
- Valid CSCS card.
- First Aid at Work certification.
- Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and health & safety legislation.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in maintaining site records and construction documentation.
- Must be computer literate.
