A band 6 hospital-based orthoptist is required to join the Countess of Chester hospital Westminster Eye Clinic comprised of a large team of 9 ophthalmologists, 6 orthoptists, 6 optometrists, specialist nurses, nurse assistants, ECLO's and ophthalmic medical photographers.
The post includes a varied orthoptic caseload supporting the paediatric and general ophthalmology sub-speciality services including core orthoptic clinics, pre- and post-operative squint surgery assessment, thyroid eye disease clinics and acute stroke vision assessment.
The orthoptic service are also involved in extended roles within oculoplastic clinics, medical retina and glaucoma.
The orthoptic department is a validated teaching centre for orthoptic undergraduates, as well as providing teaching to many other health care professionals.
An enthusiastic and motivated orthoptist with a degree or diploma in orthoptics and registered with the HCPC is required from July 2026. Proactive continued professional development is expected, learning is encouraged, and there is potential for future development in advanced or enhanced duties.
To provide specialist orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner within the hospital and community settings
To provide additional specialist services within the orthoptic department and the broader ophthalmic services
To provide clinical teaching to undergraduate orthoptic students, pre-registration opticians, doctors, nurses, and other allied health professional
The Trust’s services are provided from three locations:
- The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 473 general and acute beds.
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 60 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
- Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
