Learning Intervention Assistant
About the role:
A specialist school in Spalding is seeking a dedicated Learning Intervention Assistant to support pupils with a wide range of additional needs. The setting caters to students with diverse learning profiles, including Autism, SLD, SEMH needs, and communication difficulties, and provides a structured, supportive environment designed to help learners thrive.
This role will focus on supporting a Key Stage 3 cohort working at a Key Stage 2 level, delivering targeted interventions to bridge learning gaps and build confidence in core subjects. You will play a key role in helping pupils develop foundational skills, independence, and readiness for further learning through carefully structured and engaging support.
The position is available to start as soon as possible, continuing into the new academic year, with flexibility for candidates who may also be available to begin in September. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of adapted and accessible lessons by working closely with teaching staff to break learning down into achievable steps and tailor resources to suit KS2-level learning within a KS3 Classroom.
- Deliver targeted intervention sessions (1:1 and small group) focusing on core skills such as literacy, numeracy, and communication, helping pupils close gaps in learning and build confidence.
- Use structured and evidence-based strategies—including visual supports, repetition, modelling, chunked instructions, and practical activities—to enhance understanding and engagement.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet a wide range of needs, ensuring pupils remain focused, motivated, and able to access learning at their individual level.
- Monitor pupil engagement and progress during interventions, feeding back to teachers to support ongoing planning and development.
- Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation by providing calm, consistent support and helping pupils develop coping strategies and resilience.
- Build strong therapeutic relationships with pupils, promoting a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel valued and understood.
Pre Requisites:
- Experience supporting or delivering structured learning activities for children or young people, ideally within a specialist, SEND, or intervention-based setting (e.g. schools, tutoring, care environments, youth work).
- A sound understanding of special educational needs, with the ability to adapt support for learners working below age-related expectations.
- Confidence supporting KS3 pupils accessing a KS2 curriculum, with the ability to simplify concepts and make learning accessible and engaging.
- Ability to use a range of teaching and behaviour management strategies, including clear instruction, modelling, scaffolding, and maintaining pupil focus.
- Patience, resilience, and a consistent approach when supporting pupils with additional behavioural, emotional, or communication needs.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, or Youth Work, or equivalent experience in a similar role.
- A proactive, flexible, and committed approach, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
