Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting for an experienced Social Worker to join an Assessment & Intervention Team within Children’s Services in Torbay.
This is a fast-paced frontline safeguarding role working with children and families across Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and complex assessment work. You will be part of a supportive multi-team structure delivering high-quality safeguarding interventions and court-related social work where required.
The service has recently achieved a GOOD Ofsted rating, reflecting strong leadership, practice standards, and ongoing commitment to improvement and outcomes for children.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of approximately 20–24 cases, including CIN, CP, and assessment work
- Undertake high-quality assessments in line with statutory requirements and safeguarding procedures
- Progress child protection investigations, including Section 47 enquiries
- Work collaboratively with families to develop and implement effective support plans
- Contribute to care planning, case conferences, and multi-agency meetings
- Participate in duty rota cover (one week in every three), responding to urgent safeguarding concerns
- Carry out home visits and visits to children placed both within and outside the local area
- Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for court and statutory meetings
- Maintain accurate and timely case recording in line with service standards
- Work closely with colleagues, Team Managers, and partner agencies to ensure safe outcomes for children
Team Structure & Working Arrangements
- Part of a structured service comprising six teams across Torbay
- Each team includes a Team Manager, Advanced Social Worker, and 4–5 Social Workers
- Office attendance required up to three times per week
- Full-time office presence required during duty weeks
- Flexible remote working available, with expectation of responsiveness during safeguarding incidents
- Supervision typically provided on a fortnightly basis (varies by team)
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration
- Experience in frontline children’s services, ideally Assessment & Intervention or Safeguarding teams
- Strong understanding of CIN, CP, and statutory safeguarding processes
- Experience completing assessments and managing complex caseloads
- Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to crisis situations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports and multi-agency working
- Willingness to travel across Torbay and occasionally outside the area for visits
