About the role:
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Generator Test Engineer to join our team, working within a fast-paced and safety-critical test environment. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our generator products meet both customer expectations and industry standards through rigorous testing, fault finding and continuous improvement.
You will work across a range of technologies including diesel generators, hydrogen generator solutions and lithium battery systems, supporting the delivery of high-quality, reliable products.
What does this role involve day to day?
- Testing diesel generators (70kVA – 625kVA), including electrical and mechanical systems
- Carrying out testing on hydrogen generators and lithium iron battery packs
- Performing generator synchronisation using Deep Sea, DEIF or ComAp controllers
- Diagnosing faults across AC/DC systems, electrical panels and diesel engine components
- Interpreting electrical schematics and engineering drawings
- Recording test data and updating build documentation in line with SOPs
- Working closely with engineering and quality teams to resolve issues and drive product improvements
- Ensuring all activities are carried out safely within a live electrical test environment
This will be suited to you if…
- You have strong experience in diesel generator testing and electrical/mechanical systems
- You are confident working independently or as part of a small team
- You can effectively fault-find and problem solve in a hands-on environment
- You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, live testing environment
- You have experience with generator synchronisation and control systems (Deep Sea, DEIF or ComAp)
- You can read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
Qualifications & Experience
- ONC/HNC (or higher) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation/Maintenance
- Minimum 5 years’ experience testing diesel generators
- Experience with LV electrical systems and mechanical/fuel systems
- Strong knowledge of 3-phase generators and control/breaker panels
- Advanced fault-finding skills across electrical and mechanical systems
- City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing (or equivalent)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
- Completed recognised electrical apprenticeship (preferred)
- Knowledge of PLC/SCADA, MODBUS or CANBUS systems (desirable)
