We are looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, and proactive Pastoral Mentor to join our Pastoral team on a term-time only basis working 39 weeks per year.
This role plays a key part in supporting our students to achieve their full potential. We require a driven individual with the coaching ability to mentor and support 16 to 18-year-old students to achieve and develop academically and emotionally. You will act as a trusted point of contact, helping learners build the confidence and resilience they need to improve their attendance, retention, and behaviour. As a Pastoral Mentor, you will work closely with learners, curriculum teams, and support services to ensure our students receive the right support at the right time. Your key duties will include:
- Individualised Student Support: Provide tailored pastoral mentoring to individual students and small groups across all curriculum areas, setting clear actions and tracking progress via RAG ratings.
- Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with our Programme Achievement Managers to support ‘at risk’ learners in a range of learning settings.
- Attendance & Engagement Monitoring: Effectively use college MIS systems to identify poor attendance, offering proactive advice and motivating students to take responsibility for their own attendance, including English and maths lessons.
- Academic & Emotional Coaching: Encourage and motivate learners to succeed, helping them develop accountability and resilience.
- Thorough Record Keeping: Complete student/mentor contracts using assessment tools and maintain comprehensive data records of student meetings and outcomes.
- Safeguarding & Welfare: Identify individual learner needs early, promoting positive behaviour and respect, and making formal referrals to safeguarding or specialist services when appropriate.

Hold a minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject
- Hold a mentor Qualification or be prepared to train for one
- Hold a minimum Level 2 qualification in Maths and English
- Experience of mentoring young learners
- Experience of supporting learners in an educational environment (desirable)
- Experience of working within a team
- Experience of working to pressure and tight deadlines
