Company Overview – CAD Draughtsman / Design Engineer
Our client is a well-established engineering and manufacturing company specialising in the design, development, and production of bespoke machinery and engineered systems.
Due to continued growth and an increasing workload, they are looking to recruit an experienced CAD Draughtsman / Design Engineer to join their team as soon as possible.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and technically capable individual to work on a wide variety of engineering projects, contributing from concept through to manufacture. The successful candidate will play a key role in producing accurate technical drawings, developing engineering solutions, and supporting project delivery across multiple disciplines.
The ideal candidate will have experience within machinery design and manufacturing environments and possess a strong understanding of steelwork, hydraulics, electrical systems, and engineering documentation.
CAD Draughtsman / Design Engineer Role and Responsibilities:
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Develop system layouts and construction drawings in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Create and maintain engineering drawings using AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
- Manage and update drawing revisions using PDM systems.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and production teams to ensure designs are accurately translated into manufacturing documentation.
- Assist with machinery design and product development projects.
- Design and develop steelwork, hydraulic, and electrical systems where required.
- Support fault-finding and problem-solving activities throughout the design and manufacturing process.
- Produce and maintain technical files and engineering documentation.
- Review and amend drawings throughout the project lifecycle to reflect design changes and improvements.
- Ensure all drawings comply with relevant standards, regulations, and quality requirements.
- Provide support with technical presentations and graphic design requirements when necessary.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
CAD Draughtsman / Design Engineer Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in a CAD Draughtsman, Design Engineer, or similar engineering design role.
- Strong proficiency in:
- 3D CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks or equivalent)
- 2D CAD software (AutoCAD)
- PDM systems
- Experience within machinery design and development environments.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing and engineering processes.
- Experience designing or working with:
- Steelwork
- Hydraulic systems
- Electrical systems
- Fault-finding and problem-solving experience within engineering projects.
- Ability to create and maintain technical files and engineering documentation.
- Excellent understanding of technical drawing standards and engineering best practice.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Experience within engineering, manufacturing, construction, or industrial sectors is highly desirable.
- Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Experience with graphic design software would be advantageous but is not essential.
