Fix It is a specialist Post 16 College, that offers alternative, vocational education for learners ages 16-24 with SEND or additional needs.
We aim to improve the life chances, career choices and opportunities of all our learners, many of whom have experienced substantial barriers to learning in the past. We support our learners by offering a more hands on, vocational focus to learning, while embedding crucial life skills into the curriculum. As a college, we offer primarily Motor Vehicle focused qualifications, in a workshop environment that looks and feels like a 'real' garage.
We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced Motor Vehicle tutor to join our team.
About the Role
As a Motor Vehicle Tutor, you’ll be responsible for planning and delivering high quality, engaging and inclusive training sessions to learners with complex and SEN needs. You’ll support them to achieve their EHCP outcomes and gain an accredited qualification in Motor Vehicle Studies. You will be able to adapt your teaching approach to meet the individual needs of each learner, and embed functional skills and life skills into your sessions.
You will create a positive and supporting environment, where every learner has the opportunity to succeed.
You will also play a key role in promoting learners’ personal development, confidence, employability and independence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver a bespoke programme that caters to learners' individual EHCP requirements, different learning styles and SEMH needs.
- Provide practical, hands on sessions in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and Health and Safety
- Teach accredited Motor Vehicle qualifications from Entry Level to Level 2
- Embed English and Maths functional skills, life skills and employability into Motor Vehicle Sessions.
- Maintain a safe and tidy workshop environment, and ensure learners are following health and safety guidelines at all times.
- Classroom management including monitoring attendance, punctuality and learner behaviour. Deal with challenging behaviour in a professional manner, and in accordance with college policies.
- Monitor and track learner progress and maintain learner qualification portfolios, internal verification paperwork and other qualification documentation to a high standard
- Contribute to curriculum planning, learner reviews and staff development activities, working collaboratively with wider staff teams
- Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge and professional standards
- Effectively use the college MIS system to keep accurate and timely learner records, monitor attendance, ATL scores and portfolio progress
Terms and conditions
Salary: £34,000 - £38,000 per annum
This is a full time position, 35 hours per week.
Annual Leave: 40 days + Bank Holidays
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Will hold a Level 3 (or above) qualification in Motor Vehicle Studies
- Holds a teaching qualification or is willing to work towards one
- Holds a level 2 qualification in English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Has experience working with young people, ideally within an SEN or Educational setting
- Has strong practical Motor Vehicle skills and good knowledge of health and safety procedures
- Is able to build positive relationships with learners with complex needs
- Will be a good role model for our learners, leading by example.
- Is patient, adaptable and able to communicate well with learners and staff
- Has good computer literacy and is able to use technology effectively when teaching
Desirable:
- Has experience of working within a school, college or alternative provision environment
- Holds Assessor or IQA qualifications
- Has experience of effectively using school or college MIS systems
- Has a good knowledge of of the SEND code of practice and other relevant guidance
