Orchardlea Foods is a long-established, family-owned food wholesaler based in Exeter. We supply a wide range of quality chilled, frozen and ambient foods to businesses throughout the South West. Alongside distribution, we also prepare many of our products in-house through our slicing, cutting and packing facilities.
As we enter our busiest time of year, we're looking for a reliable and hardworking Seasonal Warehouse Operative to join our warehouse team on a 10-week summer contract.
This role would suit someone looking for summer work, between permanent jobs, returning to work, or simply looking for a short-term opportunity within a friendly, family-run business. There may also be opportunities for future seasonal or relief work for the right candidate.
The Role
Working within our chilled warehouse (4c) and production areas, you'll play an important part in ensuring our customers receive accurate, high-quality orders every day.
You'll work as part of a small, supportive team in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and teamwork are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Picking and packing customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Handling a variety of chilled (approximately 80%), frozen (15%) and ambient (5%) food products.
- Labelling and packaging products using our in-house weighing and labelling systems (up to 800 items per day).
- Replenishing warehouse stock while following FIFO (First In, First Out) and stock rotation procedures.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout the warehouse and production areas.
- Following all Food Safety, Health & Safety and Hygiene procedures, including HACCP and Safer Food Better Business requirements.
- Supporting colleagues across different warehouse tasks as required.
- Reporting any stock, quality or health and safety concerns promptly.
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys being active, takes pride in doing a job properly and can work accurately in a busy environment.
Essential
- Reliable with excellent attendance and timekeeping.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
- Comfortable working in a chilled environment (approximately 4°C).
- Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling and remain on your feet for much of the day.
- Good communication skills with basic Maths and English.
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Previous warehouse, food production or picking and packing experience.
- Knowledge of Food Safety, HACCP, COSHH or Health & Safety procedures.
- Forklift licence.
