Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Nursery Cook to prepare nutritious, balanced meals for young children in our nursery setting. This role is central to supporting the health, wellbeing, and development of the children in our care through thoughtful meal planning and high standards of food preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare healthy, appealing meals and snacks in line with nutritional guidelines for early years.
- Cater to a variety of dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural preferences.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety, and kitchen cleanliness in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manage stock levels, order ingredients, and minimise food waste.
- Work closely with nursery staff to coordinate mealtimes smoothly and ensure children’s needs are met.
- Provide input into menu development to promote a positive food culture within the nursery, our menu is reviewed annually.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing dishes, sanitising surfaces, and storing ingredients properly.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a cook or chef, ideally within a nursery, school, or similar environment.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations (Level 2 or above Food Hygiene Certificate ). Thorough understanding of cross contamination and its adverse impact if not adhered to.
- Understanding of child nutrition and portion control.
- Organised, efficient, able to work within time scales and able to work independently.
- A warm, caring attitude and genuine interest in contributing to children’s wellbeing.
