Specialist One-to-One Study Skills Tutor - Autism
Cosmic People are a DSA registered provider of NMH support to students with disabilities in Higher Education.
We currently have a vacancy for a Specialist Study Skills Tutor supporting students on-campus on a one to one basis with their studies in accordance with their DSA Needs Assessment Report, course requirements and learning preferences.
You will be required to provide face to face support on campus.

Study Skills Tutor AS:-
This role will be to provide one to one support to students with autism, offering generic study skills strategies to enable students, in line with their course requirements, to overcome barriers to learning and become independent learners. Examples where you can help are: assisting with time management, organisation, planning, essay writing, referencing, meeting the marking criteria, sentence structure, critical analysis. Assisting with practical support to help them maximise their strengths and improve on any weaknesses.
May also be suitable for a Specialist Mentor AS:-
Your role will be as a one to one mentor providing tangible, practical strategies to assist students with autism from an emotional aspect such as: the transition to University, their personal development, socialisation issues, motivation and guidance, sleep hygiene and nutrition, to name a few. You will also assist with an academic focus providing soft functional skills such as time management, planning, prioritising tasks, understanding deadlines and demands and the challenges that involves and setting achievable goals.

Our offices are open Monday to Friday from 8.30am until 5.00pm.

The successful candidate will have:-
- Study Skills Tutor AS qualifications:-
Any Degree, plus a relevant teaching qualification and a willingness to invest in the NAS training modules (if not already obtained) (One of the teaching qualifications specified: Cert Ed, DELTA L7, DTTLS, PGCE, AFHEA, PGCHE, PGCAP, QTS)
- Specialist Mentor AS qualifications:-
Any Degree - and a willingness to invest in the NAS training modules for the role (if not already obtained)
You should have:
· Some experience supporting adults with autism
· Have an understanding of academic standards and requirements of H.E.
· Have excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
· A good knowledge of the English language
· Be able to work flexibly to support student’s needs
· Maintain professional boundaries and respect confidentiality and data protection requirements.
· Adhere to Academic codes of practice.
· Be capable and confident and able to work on your own initiative.
· Have problem solving skills, empathy, diplomacy and sensitivity.
· Be willing to embark on relevant CPD.
Payrate:-
On-campus - £30 per hour + holiday pay
Remote - £25 per hour + holiday pay
