Primary Trained Teacher (SEN – Secondary-Aged Students)

Creative Teachers are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient professional to join an SEN school near Southampton, working with secondary-aged students with a range of complex learning needs.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity for a primary-trained practitioner to apply their expertise within a secondary SEN environment, delivering differentiated, creative, and student-centred learning. You will play a vital role in supporting pupils with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans), fostering both academic progress and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, adapted lessons tailored to individual needs
- Use inclusive teaching strategies to support a range of learning difficulties, including ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition), ADHD, and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
- Implement and review EHCP targets and contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings
- Create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment
- Use behaviour management strategies effectively, including positive behaviour support (PBS)
- Monitor, assess, and record student progress using formative and summative assessment
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals
- Build strong relationships with parents/carers to support student outcomes
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- A background in primary education with a strong understanding of differentiation
- Experience or strong interest in SEN teaching, particularly with secondary-aged pupils
- Knowledge of EHCP processes, safeguarding, and inclusive education practices
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach to teaching and learning
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working in an SEN school or alternative provision
- Training in Team Teach, Makaton, or PECS
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice
- Experience supporting students with complex needs or challenging behaviour
