Our Finance Advisory Finance team at SLR works with asset managers, asset owners, and broader financial institutions to support the responsible allocation of capital and management of sustainability-related risks and opportunities.
We differentiate by helping our clients translate sustainability into tangible value creation strategies which link to board-level priorities of risk reduction, efficiency gains, revenue opportunities, effective reporting of disclosure obligations, and positive investment outcomes.
The Role.
Associates will support the delivery of active client engagements, working alongside other associates and project managers to deliver high quality client deliverables against scope and defined timeframes. Associates will also support broad research and business development needs of the team, and with client discussion documents and proposal development.
Responsibilities include:
A. Business Development Support:
- Support the Finance Advisory team’s growth through market scanning and research, target client identification, preparation of introduction and pitch decks, and proposal development.
- Successful associates will seek out and develop an internal network of SLR experts across our transaction due diligence, corporate sustainability, and technical specialty areas, and look for opportunities to leverage this expertise to deliver value to our financial services clients.
B. Financial Institution and Public Market Investor Support:
Be a key team member and workstream owner on client engagements across the following areas:
- Responsible Investment Strategy: Support clients in developing their sustainability and responsible investment strategies, capabilities and internal processes
- Strategic Advisory services covering our clients priority sustainability focus areas and leveraging SLRs technical domain expertise to deliver value creating and executable advise across themes of nature and biodiversity, water stewardship, climate transition, and physical value at risk.
- Regulatory preparation and execution: Support financial services clients in assessing and preparing for upcoming regulatory requirements and any external assurance processes.
C. Private Market Investor Support:
Working alongside our private market transaction team, support private equity, private credit, and infrastructure investors across all aspects of their investment lifecycle:
- Fund Advisory. Assist in the development of private equity clients’ ESG strategies, systems and processes, supporting senior members of the Malk team.
- Due Diligence. Evaluating a company’s exposure to material ESG risks and its capacity to mitigate those risks for a client considering acquisition.
- Portfolio Value Creation. Assist portfolio companies to identify and evaluate value creation opportunities linked to tangible sustainability-related performance improvement. In many cases provide a link into broader SLR Consulting technical capabilities. Where relevant, help the portfolio companies ready themselves for exit from the current owners through exit readiness and sellside due diligence support.

About you
- Skills: Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, alongside the ability to conduct detailed and accurate research and deliver findings through clear and concise written and verbal communications. High attention to detail and numeric capability, being able to effectively discuss financial value and linkages between sustainability and economic impacts. Proficiency in excel, word and PowerPoint.
- Experience: Top candidates will have experience in working across the sustainability and financial services sectors with some knowledge of financial sector sustainability drivers and applicable regulations. Previous advisory and/or M&A related experience would be a strong positive.
- Education: Candidates who have demonstrated a track record of success in rigorous academic environment.
- Other Traits: In addition to being highly motivated, candidates must be passionate about solving our client’s sustainability challenges. Candidates must be self-starters, critical thinkers, highly organised, able to work semi-independently, able to multi-task, and enjoy working in an informal work environment.
