A leading industrial operation is seeking an experienced Engineering & Fleet Workshop Manager to lead a busy maintenance function responsible for a large fleet of vehicles, mobile plant, material handling equipment and engineering assets.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for a hands-on manager who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment and enjoys leading teams, improving performance and driving engineering excellence.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will take ownership of the engineering and fleet maintenance operation, ensuring maximum fleet availability, legal compliance, cost control and continuous improvement across the department.
The Opportunity

You will be responsible for managing workshop operations, engineering performance, fleet compliance, maintenance planning and team development, ensuring equipment and vehicles remain safe, compliant and operationally effective.
The successful candidate will be a strong leader with experience managing technicians, engineers and maintenance personnel within a fleet, transport, waste, logistics, plant hire, heavy engineering or similar environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a multi-disciplined engineering and maintenance team.
- Manage all workshop activities to ensure maximum fleet and equipment availability.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transport, engineering and health & safety legislation.
- Oversee preventative maintenance programmes, inspections and repair schedules.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and maintenance operations.
- Monitor departmental performance through KPIs and operational reporting.
- Manage engineering budgets, stock control and departmental expenditure.
- Ensure compliance with LOLER, PUWER, COSHH and internal management systems.
- Work closely with operational teams to support service delivery and operational targets.
- Conduct investigations into equipment failures and recurring defects, implementing corrective actions.
- Manage maintenance planning systems and engineering documentation.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers and external service providers.
- Lead performance management, coaching, training and development activities within the engineering team.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have a proven background in fleet maintenance, workshop management or engineering leadership within a demanding operational environment.

Essential Experience

- Experience leading and developing engineering or maintenance teams.
- Knowledge of fleet compliance and engineering legislation.
- Experience managing KPIs, budgets and operational performance.
- Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-moving operational environment.
- Experience using maintenance management systems and engineering software.
