- Support whole-school musical events, performances, and enrichment opportunities.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Instruction
- Deliver high-quality music lessons to individuals, groups, and whole classes from beginner to diploma level; differentiated to meet the needs of all learners.
- Plan and prepare high-quality lessons, rehearsals, performances, and music examination entry; including the development of resources and the preparation and arrangement of music as required.
- Provide constructive feedback to pupils to support their musical progress and development.
Wider School Music Provision
- Direct, conduct, and rehearse ensembles and sectional rehearsals as required.
- Run engaging after-school and lunchtime music clubs (e.g., choir, band, or instrument-specific groups).
- Organise and deliver school concerts, festivals, and musical assemblies.
- Ensure safe and effective use, maintenance, and storage of instruments and music equipment.
- Support the Music Lead with whole-school music planning and curriculum development.
Classroom Cover Support
- Provide high-quality classroom cover across EYFS, KS1, and KS2 during teacher absences or PPA time as required.
- Deliver pre-prepared lessons and manage classroom behavior in line with school policies to ensure continuity of learning.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment outside of the music setting.
Pastoral and Safeguarding
- Build positive relationships and promote collaboration and teamwork through music.
- Encourage resilience, confidence, and respectful participation.
- Follow school safeguarding, behaviour, and health & safety policies.
Professional Development & Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff.
- Participate in training and contribute to staff meetings.
- Play an active role in the wider life of the school.
Person Specification – Music TutorQualifications & Training
Essential:
- Degree in Music, professional musical qualification, or equivalent teaching/tutoring experience.
- High level of proficiency in at least one core instrument/voice.
- Experience teaching music to children aged 4–11.
- First Aid qualification (or willingness to train).
Desirable:
- Teaching qualification (e.g., QTS, ATCL/LTCL, or equivalent instrumental teaching diploma).
- Ability to teach multiple instruments or accompany on piano.
- Experience supporting learners with SEND in a musical context.
Experience
Essential:
- Experience delivering music sessions to individuals, small groups, and whole classes.
- Ability to plan and deliver fun, structured, and progressive musical activities.
- Experience conducting, directing, or managing student ensembles and rehearsals.
Desirable:
- Experience preparing pupils for music examinations and grading.
- Organising musical events, concerts, or school productions.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and engage pupils of all musical abilities.
- Strong organizational skills, including arranging music and managing schedules.
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures.
