We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced surgical nurse ready to take the next step in their leadership career, or an existing Band 6 looking for a new challenge, to join our General Surgery and Gynaecology Ward at The London Clinic.

The Role
This is a varied leadership role where you will continue to provide excellent clinical care while helping to oversee the day to day running of our General Surgery and Gynaecology Ward.
The ward cares for patients undergoing a broad range of elective surgical procedures, providing high quality pre-operative and post-operative care. You'll work closely with consultants, anaesthetists and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive safe, personalised care throughout their hospital stay.
Working alongside the Nurse Manager, you will coordinate shifts, support patient flow, mentor colleagues and help ensure the highest standards of safety, quality and patient experience are consistently achieved.
You will play an important role in creating a positive and supportive environment where colleagues feel valued, developed and empowered to deliver exceptional care every day.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and coordinate the ward during your shift, ensuring safe, effective care for patients undergoing general surgery and gynaecology procedures.
- Support the Nurse Manager with the day to day operational management of the ward, including patient flow, admissions and discharges.
- Deliver expert pre operative and post operative nursing care, ensuring patients receive individualised care throughout their stay.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, anaesthetists, Resident Medical Officers and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent patient outcomes.
- Act as a role model, providing leadership, support and clinical guidance to nurses, HCAs and students.
- Assist with staff development through teaching, coaching, supervision and appraisals.
- Deputise for the Nurse Manager when required.
- Promote continuous quality improvement through audit, governance activities and incident reviews.
- Ensure compliance with medicines management, documentation standards, patient safety initiatives and infection prevention practices.
- Support workforce planning, electronic rostering and the effective use of ward resources.
What We're Looking For

Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Experience caring for patients within a surgical inpatient ward, ideally within General Surgery, Gynaecology or a similar specialty.
- Experience coordinating shifts, leading teams or acting in the absence of a senior nurse.
- Excellent clinical assessment, decision making and organisational skills.
- The ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- A passion for supporting, coaching and developing junior colleagues and students.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to build strong relationships with patients, families, consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
- A commitment to continuous improvement, patient safety and delivering an outstanding patient experience.
- Previous experience in a Band 6 or equivalent leadership role.
- Experience contributing to audits, quality improvement or governance initiatives.
