About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Planner to join our busy and growing haulage operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective planning and coordination of our fleet, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed efficiently, cost-effectively and in line with customer requirements.
This role requires extensive experience within the UK haulage industry, excellent geographical knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transport environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule daily vehicle routes to maximise fleet utilisation and efficiency.
- Allocate work to drivers and ensure all jobs are completed on time.
- Monitor vehicle movements and respond quickly to operational issues.
- Liaise with drivers, customers and suppliers to ensure excellent service delivery.
- Ensure all transport activities comply with Drivers' Hours Regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
- Manage vehicle availability and coordinate with maintenance schedules.
- Identify backloads and opportunities to maximise revenue and reduce empty running.
- Handle customer enquiries and resolve transport-related issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate transport records and planning systems.
- Work closely with management to improve operational performance and profitability.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Transport Planner within a haulage or logistics operation.
- Excellent knowledge of UK road networks and transport planning.
- Strong understanding of Drivers' Hours Regulations and Working Time Directive rules.
- Proven ability to plan and manage multiple vehicles and drivers effectively.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick, informed decisions.
- Strong IT skills and experience using transport management systems.
- Professional, reliable and proactive approach to work.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience planning general haulage operations.
- Knowledge of fleet compliance and transport legislation.
