A specialist primary academy in the SN25 area is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school supports children aged 2–11 with severe, profound, and multiple learning difficulties, with every pupil having an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Staff work together to provide highly personalised support, ensuring every child can access learning, develop independence, and reach their full potential.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support a small group of approximately 8–10 pupils. You will deliver targeted interventions, provide classroom support, and help pupils access learning in a way that meets their individual needs.
Every day is different, and your role may include:
- Delivering tailored interventions to support learning and development
- Supporting pupils within the classroom and during structured activities
- Adapting learning tasks to meet individual needs
- Encouraging independence, confidence, and social development
- Assisting with routines, transitions, and emotional regulation
- Supporting pupils with physical, medical, and personal care needs where required
- Building positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
The School
The school prides itself on its welcoming, supportive, and collaborative atmosphere. Staff work closely together to ensure every child receives the care, encouragement, and opportunities they need to thrive.
With small class sizes and a strong team ethos, this is an environment where support staff are genuinely valued and given the training, guidance, and encouragement needed to succeed. The school is committed to delivering outstanding support for pupils with a wide range of complex needs and celebrates every achievement, no matter how small.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience working with children or young people with SEND, either in education, care, or support settings
- Be patient, nurturing, and adaptable
- Be comfortable supporting pupils with complex learning, physical, and medical needs
- Have a genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning
