Given the nature of this role, you must be available to cover the all shift times 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including Bank Holidays and religious festivals, day shifts and night shifts possible.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Airside Service Performance Manager (SPM), the Operations Controller is responsible for coordinating and controlling the day-to-day operation from the Operations Control Centre (OCC), ensuring the safe, efficient and on-time delivery of all aircraft turnarounds.
The Operations Controller acts as the central communication point between operational departments, airline customers and airport stakeholders, maintaining situational awareness and driving operational performance throughout the shift.
Operational Control
- Coordinate and oversee all daily flight operations from the Operations Control Centre.
- Proactively monitor the flight programme, identifying operational risks and implementing solutions to minimise delays.
- Coordinate aircraft turnarounds, ensuring all critical milestones are achieved safely and on time.
- Manage resource deployment.
- Prioritise resources during periods of disruption to maintain operational performance.
- Ensure all aircraft are met and dispatched in accordance with airline, airport and company procedures.
Communication & Coordination
- Act as the primary operational communication point for internal departments, airline representatives and airport stakeholders.
- Maintain continuous communication with Ramp, Passenger Services, Baggage Services, Aircraft Presentation and Dispatch teams.
- Provide accurate and timely operational updates to customers and management.
- Escalate operational issues promptly and support recovery planning during disruptions.
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure compliance with airline Ground Operations Manuals (GOM), company procedures and airport regulations.
- Record accurate operational milestones and turnaround timestamps within company and airline systems.
- Complete delay reports, incident reports and operational documentation accurately and within required timescales.
- Maintain aircraft billing records and ensure shift documentation is completed.
- Produce and distribute daily operational reports, including Mayfly updates.
- Maintain accurate operational records to support KPI reporting and customer performance reviews.
Person Specification Essential
- Previous experience within an airport Operations Control Centre, Dispatch or airline operations environment.
- Excellent knowledge of aircraft turnaround processes and airside operations.
- Ability to make sound operational decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage at all levels, both internally and externally.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and operational airline/airport systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Previous experience coordinating multi-airline operations.
- Knowledge of airport regulations, safety management systems and airline operational procedures.
- Experience in disruption management and operational recovery planning.
