Great Oaks Tree Services Ltd is looking for a trainee or newly qualified arborist to join our team.
We are an Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor, and we also operate our own training centre, so this is a strong opportunity for someone who has gained their initial qualifications and now wants to properly learn the trade, build site experience and progress within a professional arb company.
This role would suit someone who has already started their arboricultural training and gained some of the key qualifications, but is now looking for the right company to help them develop into a competent arborist.
We are not looking for someone who thinks they know it all. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn.
Plenty of further training will be provided for the right person, both internally through our own training centre and through ongoing experience on live sites with our teams.
The role will involve:
- Ground work on tree surgery sites
- Dragging and processing brash
- Feeding the chipper
- Assisting climbers and lead arborists
- Site clearance and vegetation management
- Hedge cutting, strimming and grounds maintenance works
- Working outside in all weather
- Learning safe systems of work on live commercial sites
- Progressing into climbing, aerial work and more technical arboriculture as experience develops
We expect our staff to be flexible and interchangeable across different areas of the business. This means supporting arboriculture, grounds maintenance, vegetation clearance and other outdoor works depending on workload, contracts and team requirements.
Ideally, applicants will already hold some or all of the following:
- Chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting
- Small tree felling
- Woodchipper
- Climbing and aerial rescue
- Aerial cutting tickets
- Full UK driving licence
Additional tickets such as MEWP, stump grinder, trailer licence, first aid, pesticide spraying, strimmer/brushcutter or hedge cutter would be an advantage.
The right person will be:
- Reliable and punctual
- Physically fit and willing to graft
- Safety aware
- Able to listen and follow instruction
- Comfortable working outdoors in poor weather
- Keen to learn from experienced arborists
- Respectful, professional and good with customers
- Interested in building a long-term career in the arb industry
This is a great opportunity for someone who has completed their initial qualifications but now needs real site experience, mentoring, training and progression.
Trial days may be offered as part of the recruitment process so both sides can get a proper feel for fit.
To apply, please send your CV, current tickets/qualifications and a short message explaining your experience so far and why you want to progress in arboriculture.
