The role involves providing a professional, accurate and effective Interpretation Service to clients where English is not their first language. You will work with service users to provide word for word verbal communication on behalf of Doncaster Interpretation and Translation Unit (DITU). Specifically, you will facilitate communication between non-English speaking customers / patients and service providers who do not share a common language.
Interpreters are employed on an ‘as and when required’ basis and you will need to have the relevant experience and/or qualifications to provide a professional, accurate and effective interpretation service in the relevant language and dialect on behalf of DITU.
Services are provided within health, local authority, and legal services and you are required to provide evidence of qualifications and/or experience within these fields.
The Local authority and Health partners (including Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospital Trust) works to key statutory, legislative and medical requirements in all translation requirements, where there is a legal duty and obligations, for example work with our children’s, education and adult service teams.
DITU is self funding, generating its own income and operates to keep costs to a minimum for all services and partner agencies that use the service.

This is an opportunity for local residents to use their vital language skills in a professional capacity to benefit Doncaster communities.The role would ideally suit a person who is local to Doncaster, Worksop or Mexborough due to the nature and locations of the role. However, the service does offer clients the option of Microsoft teams video Interpreting, so applications from people not local to Doncaster, will be considered, but only to carry out these types of appointments and not face-to-face bookings. We do not employ anyone to carry out written translation work.
Shortlisting will take place between 15th and 26th June and its anticipated, interviews will be held on the weeks commencing 6th and 13th July 2026.
On 5th June between 10:00-12:00 we will have an open ‘drop in’ at the Civic Office, Waterdale, DN1 3BU.
