A leading industrial and operational business is seeking an experienced Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) Manager to join its senior leadership team.
This is a high-impact role offering the opportunity to shape and lead the entire HSEQ strategy across a complex operational environment. The Opportunity
The HSEQ Manager will act as the subject matter expert for all Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality and Training matters across the business.
Working closely with senior leadership, the successful candidate will take ownership of compliance, management systems, audits, risk management, training and workforce competence, ensuring the business continues to operate to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the company's HSEQ strategy and drive a proactive culture of safety, quality and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, industry standards, permits and internal policies.
- Provide expert guidance and support to managers, employees and senior stakeholders.
- Promote behavioural safety initiatives and continuous improvement across all operational areas.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Monitor operational activities to ensure safe and compliant working practices.
- Identify risks and implement effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead investigations into incidents, accidents and near misses, ensuring lessons learned are embedded throughout the business.
- Develop and implement initiatives that improve operational performance and reduce risk.
Management Systems & Auditing
- Maintain and continuously improve ISO-certified management systems.
- Lead internal and external audits, ensuring successful outcomes and ongoing compliance.
- Review and develop policies, procedures and supporting documentation.
- Manage certifications, accreditations and compliance schemes.
Training & Workforce Development
- Lead the organisation's training and competency strategy.
- Develop and maintain training matrices and competency frameworks.
- Coordinate internal and external training programmes.
- Support the development of managers and employees in relation to HSEQ responsibilities.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the key contact for regulators, auditors and external compliance bodies.
- Support tender submissions and customer compliance requirements.
- Produce and present HSEQ performance reports to senior leadership.
About You
The ideal candidate will be a confident and influential HSEQ professional with a strong background in operational environments such as manufacturing, engineering, logistics, industrial processing, waste, recycling, FMCG or similar sectors.
Essential Requirements
- NVQ Level 4 (or higher) in Occupational Health & Safety Practice or equivalent.
- Proven experience leading Health, Safety and Environmental functions.
- Experience managing ISO-certified management systems.
- Strong understanding of compliance, auditing and risk management.
- Previous leadership or people management experience.
- Experience delivering investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
Desirable
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
- Internal or Lead Auditor qualification.
- Membership of a recognised Health & Safety professional body.
- Waste management qualifications such as WAMITAB COTC (or willingness to achieve with company support).
- Experience managing regulatory inspections and external audits.
