We are looking for an experienced and driven Head of Quality, Curriculum and Standards & DSL to join our leadership team and play a key role in shaping excellence across our curriculum provision.
About the Role
The Head of Quality, Curriculum and Standards is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving continuous quality improvement across DHCT. The successful candidate will ensure curriculum delivery, learner support, and educational provision meet Ofsted, ESFA, and Awarding Organisation standards while promoting a culture of excellence across Levels 2–7 provision.
This role also incorporates the responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership across Quality and Curriculum functions.
- Lead and support Quality and Curriculum teams, promoting high performance and professional development.
- Develop and manage an ambitious and compliant curriculum offer aligned to local, regional, and employer needs.
- Oversee Functional Skills and Additional Learning Support to ensure inclusive learner access and achievement.
- Lead internal quality assurance (IQA) frameworks and coordinate internal and external audits, including Ofsted, ESFA, and Awarding Body requirements.
- Act as the organisation’s Ofsted Nominee.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment.
- Lead Aptem system development and curriculum functionality to support ongoing DfE reforms.
- Develop and deliver the staff CPD strategy to improve teaching quality and learner outcomes.
- Produce strategic reports, KPIs, SARs, and QIPs for Senior Leadership Team review.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, Prevent, EDI, GDPR, and curriculum policies.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with employers, awarding organisations, regulators, and external stakeholders.
Essential Criteria
- Extensive knowledge of Ofsted EIF, DfE, and Awarding Organisation quality standards.
- Proven leadership experience during Ofsted and Awarding Body inspections.
- Experience in safeguarding, curriculum planning, delivery, and quality improvement.
- Proven success in developing and implementing internal quality assurance frameworks.
- Experience managing IQA teams and curriculum leads.
- Strong understanding of DfE funding and compliance regulations.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to motivate and challenge constructively.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive and hands-on approach to problem-solving.
- Experience within Level 5 Adult Care provision.
- Teaching qualification (Level 4+) and/or Assessor/IQA qualification (TAQA/CAVA).
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding, Prevent, EDI, and GDPR requirements.
- Experience using data and performance analysis to drive improvement.
- Experience producing and presenting strategic performance reports.
Desirable Criteria
- Leadership or management qualification (e.g. ILM Level 5 or above).
- Experience in blended learning and digital curriculum innovation.
- Knowledge of Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs).
- Experience working across Levels 5–7 provision.
- Familiarity with e-portfolio and learner tracking systems.
- Experience contributing to strategic planning and KPI development.
- Previous experience within a growing training provider or FE organisation.

Quality and Ofsted Readiness
- Achieve 100% of curriculum areas graded Good or better.
- Achieve 80% Outstanding provision by Year 2.
Learner Achievement and Progression
- Maintain a 90% overall achievement rate.
- Achieve an 85% timely achievement rate.
Curriculum Effectiveness
- Ensure 100% of new and revised curriculum aligns to LSIPs and employer needs.
Teaching, Learning and Assessment
- Ensure 100% of staff are graded Good or better.
- Achieve 70% Outstanding teaching performance.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Maintain 100% compliance across internal and external audits.
Staff Development
- Ensure all staff complete annual CPD requirements with a minimum of 30 CPD hours annually.
