About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Prepress Operative to join our busy print production team. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing customer artwork for print, creating press impositions, producing printing plates, and supporting the smooth flow of work through production.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business that is investing in the latest prepress technology. A new Kodak workflow system is due to be installed, and the successful candidate will receive specialist training directly from Kodak as part of the implementation process.
You will ensure that all jobs are prepared accurately, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Checking and preparing customer artwork for print production.
- Conducting preflight checks to ensure files meet production specifications.
- Creating print-ready PDFs and production files.
- Producing press impositions for lithographic and digital printing processes.
- Generating and processing printing plates using Computer-to-Plate (CTP) systems.
- Managing workflow through RIP and prepress systems.
- Ensuring correct colour management, bleed, trim, and resolution requirements are met.
- Troubleshooting artwork and production file issues.
- Liaising with internal departments regarding technical print requirements.
- Maintaining accurate job records and production documentation.
- Supporting continuous improvement activities within the prepress department.
- Working in accordance with company quality procedures and customer specifications.
Skills and Experience Essentials
- Previous experience in a prepress, reprographics, artwork, or print production role.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe InDesign.
- Good understanding of Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Good understanding of commercial print processes.
- Experience preparing files for lithographic and/or digital printing.
- Knowledge of colour management and print specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines.
- Good communication skills and ability to work within a team.
Desirable
- Experience creating press impositions.
- Experience operating CTP plate-making equipment.
- Knowledge of Kodak Prinergy or other workflow management systems.
- Understanding of PDF/X standards and preflight software.
- Experience within pharmaceutical, packaging, leaflet, or commercial print environments.
Training and Development
