Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Cook/Kitchen Hand to join our team for both The Duke Hotel (main pub/restaurant) & The Duchess Lounge (cafe/tearoom).
Assistant Chef (Part-Time)
Hours: 20–25 hours per week (more hours can be granted should the business require more work)
The Duke Hotel is an independent, family-run gastro pub, restaurant and boutique hotel, while The Duchess Lounge is our charming café, tea room and event space. We pride ourselves on serving freshly prepared, locally sourced food in a welcoming environment and are looking for someone who shares our passion for quality food and excellent service.
About the Role
This is a varied position working across both our restaurant kitchen and café operation. Duties may include:
- Assisting with food preparation and service
- Supporting the Head Chef and kitchen team during busy services
- Preparing brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner dishes
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness
- Helping with stock rotation and kitchen organisation, and maintaining maximum food hygiene standards.
- Ensuring food is presented to very high standard
What We're Looking For
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to work well under pressure in a busy kitchen
- Flexibility to work across both venues and different service periods, also be flexible in terms of shifts (morning, afternoon, evening).
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Previous kitchen experience is preferred but not essential
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or over
Working Hours & Availability
Flexibility is essential, as shifts may be based at either The Duke Hotel restaurant or The Duchess Lounge café.
Applicants must be available to work between Wednesday and Sunday, including a mixture of:
- Morning shifts
- Lunch services
- Evening/dinner services
Successful candidates will also be expected to work key trading dates throughout the year, including:
- Christmas Day
- Boxing Day
- New Year's Eve
- New Year's Day
- Valentine's Day
- Mother's Day
- Father's Day
- Easter
