CONTRACTS MANAGER
Full Time | London and South East | Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience
About MRC Contractors
MRC Contractors (Martin Robinson Carpentry Ltd) is an established commercial carpentry and joinery subcontractor operating across the South East. We deliver complex, multi-unit residential and commercial projects for a portfolio of respected main contractors & developers.
We hold BMTrada Q-Mark Fire Door Installation certification, Constructionline Gold, and Builders Profile accreditations — and we take quality and compliance seriously. Our active project portfolio includes large-scale residential schemes, healthcare facilities, and care sector developments.
The Role
We are looking for a Contracts Manager to join our team and take ownership of live projects from award through to final account. This is a hands-on operational role — you will be the day-to-day lead on your projects, working closely with our Directors, QS, and site supervisors.
Our projects span London and the wider South East, so regular travel to site comes with the territory. You won’t be desk-bound — expect variety across different locations and project types. Our head office is at Medway City Estate, Rochester, and we run weekly operations meetings there; attendance is expected as part of the role.
We are open to candidates at varying levels of experience. Whether you are an experienced Contracts Manager with a strong track record, or a capable Site Manager / Senior Foreman ready to step up into a commercial management role, we want to hear from you. The package and responsibilities on offer will reflect your background.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing multiple live carpentry and joinery subcontracts simultaneously, from mobilisation through to completion.
- Acting as the primary point of contact with main contractors for day-to-day contract management, instructions, and correspondence.
- Overseeing site supervisors and operatives, ensuring programmes, quality standards, and attendance requirements are met.
- Reviewing and managing subcontract documents, scope of works, and schedule of rates.
- Identifying, and working closely with project QS to notify, and pursue variations, site instructions, and change events in a timely manner.
- Monitoring project progress against programme and flagging delay or disruption issues with supporting records.
- Liaising with our QS on valuations, applications, and cost management
- Attending site meetings, producing minutes, and managing action trackers
- Supporting and issuing RAMS, COSHH, and quality documentation in line with our QMS and Onetrace platform requirements.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of MRC's processes, procedures, and project delivery.
What We’re Looking For

- Experience managing or supervising teams on commercial or residential construction sites.
- Sound understanding of subcontract programmes, build sequences, and site coordination.
- Strong communication skills — confident dealing with main contractor PMs and QSs.
- Organised, reliable, and commercially aware.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Familiarity with fire door installation and compliance (BMTrada Q-Mark awareness a bonus).
- Exposure to digital QMS platforms (e.g. Onetrace, Dalux, or similar).
- SMSTS, CSCS (Black or Gold card), or equivalent site management qualification.
- Experience working across healthcare, residential, or care sector projects.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary — genuinely tailored to your level of experience and what you bring to the role.
