Job Description
S. Woodley Crop Services Ltd is looking for a motivated and ambitious Soil Surveyor to join the team on a self employed temporary basis from 17/08/26 until the end of January 2027.
The successful candidates will be involved in a national scale eco-system survey project. This project aims to set a baseline for soil health across England.
At S. Woodley Crop Services Ltd, we have provided the physical data collection in the South of England for the past 3 years. Our area of work is predominantly the South East, but there may be some expectation to travel further depending on work requirements.
Your primary responsibilities will be to follow a precise methodology for retrieving samples and record data on an iPad. This role demands a level of physical strength and determination, as you’ll be handling equipment and working in remote locations. Strong teamwork is essential to the success of this role, and you must be comfortable working in small teams in an rural setting where livestock may be present.
Responsibilities:
- Follow a specific methodology to undertake soil survey fieldwork.
- Ensure equipment is managed in an organised fashion.
- Manage data collection in the field using various IT systems.
- Liaise with clients, landowners, contractors, statutory authorities and third parties.
Qualifications / Experience:
- Full clean driving licence.
- Understanding of IT systems, particularly iPad.
- Good understanding of map reading (orienteering)
- Be accustomed to working outside in all weather
- Cable Avoidance Tool, First Aid and Manual Handling certificated would advantageous, but not essential as all training will be provided.
Work Schedule
This role is part time and needs a level of flexibility, but a standard working week with be Monday - Tuesday with the occasional Wednesday. 08:00 – 18:00, but daylight hours and travel may affect this.
· No weekend or bank holiday work.
