Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Cook to support our culinary team in delivering high-quality meals and exceptional dining experiences. The ideal candidate will assist in food preparation, cooking, and maintaining kitchen standards, ensuring all dishes meet our quality and safety requirements. Shift Pattern and Hours of work
- Total of 34 hours per week.
- Four shifts a week: 2 shifts of 7.30am to 4.30pm and 2 shifts 9.00am to 6.00pm 30 mins unpaid break.
- Alternate Weekends Required.
- Overtime shifts available.
Principle Responsibilities
Meal Preparation and Service
- Assist in cooking, preparing, and serving meals according to the planned menu cycle, ensuring all dishes meet residents’ dietary needs and preferences.
- Prepare modified meals and drinks for residents with specific requirements, including allergies, texture adjustments, and consistency modifications (IDDSI compliance).
- Help plate meals and prepare food trolleys for service, ensuring presentation standards are maintained.
- Support the Head Chef in creating special menu items for seasonal events, celebrations, and themed occasions.
Food Safety and Hygiene
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all kitchen areas.
- Follow all mandatory food safety guidelines, including HACCP, COSHH, and Health & Safety procedures.
- Keep preparation areas stocked, clean, and organized at all times.
- Complete required documentation to support food safety compliance.
Stock and Equipment Management
- Receive and check deliveries, monitor stock rotation, and assist with ordering supplies within budget guidelines.
- Report any equipment faults promptly to the Head Chef.
- Set up hydration stations and night provisions as required.
Team Support
- Deputise for the Head Chef when necessary to ensure continuity of kitchen operations.
- Assist with training and mentoring new kitchen staff, promoting teamwork and adherence to standards.
- Support catering for special events such as BBQs, parties, and seasonal celebrations.
Additional Duties
- Wash and clear kitchen items, including crockery and cutlery, after each meal service.
- Respond to resident needs related to meals and hydration when required.
Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential Skills and Attributes
- Genuine enthusiasm for cooking and creating nutritious, appealing meals.
- Previous experience working in a fresh food kitchen, supported by relevant food hygiene certifications.
- Strong commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with colleagues and residents.
- Open-minded and adaptable, with a willingness to embrace new ideas and innovative approaches to meal preparation.

Experience and Knowledge
- Previous experience working as an Assistant Chef/ Cook / Catering Team member in a residential care home or similar healthcare setting is essential.
- A solid understanding of IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) framework is desired but not essential.
Qualifications
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Professional Cookery or equivalent – desirable but not essential.
