Red Balloon Worthing is seeking an exceptional and committed Assistant Headteacher to join our dedicated team supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping teaching and learning, wellbeing and strategic development within a highly supportive alternative provision.
About the Role
As Assistant Headteacher, you will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to provide leadership across the Centre, ensuring high-quality teaching, strong outcomes for learners, and a nurturing, therapeutic environment.
You will play a significant role in the day-to-day running of the provision, including supporting staff development, monitoring the quality of teaching and learning, and contributing to the strategic direction of the Centre.
The role includes a teaching commitment of up to 50%, with the remaining time dedicated to leadership responsibilities. You will teach a range of subjects. Maths, English or Humanities are desirable but not essential.
We are open to full-time or part-time applicants, with flexibility to support the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide leadership across teaching and learning, wellbeing and strategic development
· Work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team to support the effective day-to-day running of the Centre
· Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning to ensure strong engagement and progress for all learners
· Lead, support and develop staff to ensure continuous improvement
· Contribute to self-evaluation and ongoing development of the provision
· Undertake safeguarding responsibilities, including acting as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
· Teach a timetable of up to 50%.
About You
We are looking for a committed and reflective leader who:
· Holds Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent) and a degree in a specialist subject
· Has experience of leading and managing staff effectively
· Is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs, including SEMH
· Demonstrates strong communication, organisational and leadership skills
· Is empathetic, adaptable and highly motivated to make a difference
Experience working within alternative provision or SEN settings would be advantageous.
