T his post is to appoint an enthusiastic, forward thinking Trust Obstetrician & Gynaecologist (SHO). The post will be based at Worthing.
The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic junior grade (ST1 equivalent) resident doctor team providing general Obstetrics and Gynaecology services to the local population of West Sussex. The junior grade resident doctor’s rota will be supported by middle grade resident doctors and by established consultants and members of the multidisciplinary team with a variety of specialised clinical skills.
The post is available from June 2026 for an initial period of four months.
The primary responsibility of the post holder is to provide support in general obstetrics and gynaecology. They will be part on of on call rota and cover labour ward and gynaecology 1 in 8. The post holder is to provide ward care, care for antenatal and postnatal patients and cover gynae day unit under supervision.They will also be expected to assist in theatres. They will always be working under direct supervision of registrars and consultants.
The post holder is expected to:

3.Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
4.Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care activities
5.Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
6.Demonstrate, always model and encourage Trust values to all patients and staff.

The job role involves a rotation of normal working days, long days, night shift and a rolling rota of weekend on calls. The rolling rota will be available to the post holder in advance.
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
SHO cover on labour ward, ward reviews, Gynae day unit cover, theatre assistance and covering the gynaecology emergency service. In addition, there will be opportunity to attend Antenatal clinics, Gynaecology clinics and theatres.
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior.
It is an expectation that the post holder:
- Attend mandatory training updates as required
- Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process
- Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales
- Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager
- Participate in the Trust’s appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service
