A Market Cafe in Tavistock is a busy and welcoming café committed to serving high-quality food and providing excellent customer service. We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Cook to join our team.
Job Purpose
The Café Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking food to a high standard, maintaining food hygiene regulations, and ensuring a clean and organised kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, and light meal menu items.
- Ensure food is presented attractively and consistently.
- Maintain high standards of food quality and portion control.
- Assist with menu development and daily specials.
- Monitor stock levels and inform management of ordering requirements.
- Rotate stock and minimise food waste.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas.
- Work efficiently during busy periods while maintaining quality standards.
- Support other team members as required.
- Able to follow recipes clearly and concisely
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Cook, Chef, or Kitchen Assistant.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude.
Desirable Requirements
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 1 or above).
- Experience in a café, coffee shop, or similar hospitality environment.
- Knowledge of allergen management and dietary requirements.
- Experience with stock control and ordering.
