Outdoor SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Chard, Somerset
Pay: £121 - £130 per day
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Contract: Full-Time, Temp-Perm position
Are you someone who enjoys working outdoors and helping young people build confidence through practical learning experiences?
We are seeking an Outdoor SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Chard. The role involves supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), SEMH needs, and communication difficulties through a combination of outdoor activities and classroom-based learning.
This position would suit candidates with backgrounds in outdoor education, youth work, sports coaching, forest school, or SEN support.
The Role
- Support pupils during outdoor learning sessions and practical activities.
- Encourage engagement, participation, and personal development.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Help pupils develop confidence, independence, and teamwork skills.
- Support learning both outdoors and within the classroom when required.
- Work closely with teaching and support staff to meet individual pupil needs.
Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Interest in outdoor learning and activity-based education.
- Positive, proactive, and adaptable approach.
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
- Ability to build effective relationships with pupils and colleagues.
