Active Learning Support Assistant – PRU Setting

We are seeking a confident, enthusiastic, and nurturing Active Learning Support Assistant/ Sports coach to join a welcoming Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Southampton. This role is perfect for someone with a positive, hands-on approach who enjoys being active, building strong relationships, and supporting young people to reach their potential.
You will be working with pupils with SEMH needs, many of whom have faced challenges within mainstream education. The role focuses on helping students re-engage with learning through a mixture of classroom support, practical activities, and active learning opportunities.
The Role
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
- Delivering creative, practical, and activity-based support
- Assisting within classroom lessons and more hands-on learning environments
- Building trusting relationships and acting as a positive role model
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff and pastoral teams
The Ideal Candidate
- Enjoys an active role and has interests in areas such as fitness, dance, sport, coaching, childcare, or wellbeing
- Calm, patient, and resilient when supporting challenging behaviour
- Able to motivate and engage pupils who may struggle in traditional classroom settings
- Proactive, approachable, and supportive in nature
- Previous experience working with young people or SEMH/SEN needs is beneficial but not essential
