Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Yard Manager to oversee daily operations within our logistics environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing yard activities, supervising staff, and ensuring efficient utilisation of resources. This role requires a strong understanding of supply chain processes, transportation management systems, and warehouse operations to optimise productivity and safety standards. The Yard Manager will play a key role in maintaining seamless shipping and receiving functions while implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties
- Oversee all yard activities, including loading, unloading, and storage operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Supervise yard staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to maintain high standards of productivity and safety.
- Coordinate transportation management systems (TMS) and utilise ERP systems such as AS400 to track inventory, shipments, and logistics data accurately.
- Implement process improvements aimed at increasing operational efficiency and reducing costs through continuous improvement strategies.
- Ensure proper loading and unloading procedures are followed, maintaining accurate records within warehouse management systems.
- Monitor stock levels, organise storage layouts, and optimise space utilisation within the yard area.
- Maintain health & safety standards by conducting regular inspections and addressing hazards promptly.
Experience
- Proven supervising experience in a logistics or warehouse environment with a focus on yard management.
- Strong knowledge of profit & loss management to support operational decision-making.
- Experience with process improvement initiatives within supply chain or logistics settings.
- Hands-on experience operating forklift trucks and other warehouse equipment.
- Solid understanding of logistics principles including shipping & receiving, warehouse operations, and supply chain management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead continuous improvement projects that enhance operational efficiency and safety standards. Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
