About Green Civils
Green Civils Ltd is a Wigan-based civil engineering contractor specialising in groundworks for the green energy sector — EV charging, battery storage (BESS), solar PV, and HV cable pulling. We're a 13-strong team in active growth, expanding to four full gangs in 2026 across the North-West, Yorkshire, Midlands and North Wales.
About the Role
We're looking for reliable, experienced Groundworkers / 2nd Men to join our gangs delivering EV, BESS and solar infrastructure groundworks across the UK.
This is a working-away role. We meet at the Wigan yard early Monday morning (6–7am) and return Friday. Accommodation, travel and a £20/night subsistence allowance are all provided.
For the right operative who shows up, works hard and learns the job, there's a clear route into a Team Leader / Ganger position as we scale.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting the lead operative and plant driver on EV, BESS and solar civils projects
- Hand and machine excavation (hard and soft dig)
- Installing ducts, edgings, kerbs and concrete works to spec
- Reinstatement: paving, tarmac, fencing, turfing
- CAT & Genny scanning and cable avoidance
- Keeping the site tidy, safe and well-organised
Hours & Overtime
- Standard: 45 hours per week, Mon–Thu (10–12 hour shifts)
- Friday typically a non-working day once 45 hours are complete
- Overtime: weekdays flat rate, weekends x1.5, nights x2
Essential
- CSCS card
- Proven experience in ducting, drainage or reinstatement
- CAT & Genny competence
- Comfortable working away from home Mon–Fri
Advantageous
- NPORS or CPCS — 360 excavator, dumper, roller
- Streetworks (NRSWA)
- Manual Handling, First Aid, Abrasive Wheels
- Full UK driving licence
