Reporting to: Catering Manager
Salary: Grade 4 (£26,306 - £26,722) per annum
Contract status: Permanent. Accommodation available on request.
Term: 40 weeks per year – term time plus INSET days and an additional 5 days during the holidays
Hours: 44 per week
Monday to Friday: approximately 8 hours per day (split shifts)
Sunday: approximately 4 hours supporting the Weekend Chef with Sunday lunch service

Job Purpose
Burford School is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Boarding House Kitchen Operative to support its vibrant boarding community of around 100 students and staff. This is a key role focused on delivering a welcoming, high-quality catering experience, including preparing and serving daily breakfast, supporting evening meal service, and providing snacks for boarders. Working closely with the wider catering team, the postholder will help ensure smooth service, maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and presentation, and contribute to a positive dining environment that supports student wellbeing.
The successful candidate will have experience in a professional kitchen, a good understanding of food hygiene and safety, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The role includes weekend support for Sunday lunch service and occasional responsibility for preparing meals independently. Strong organisational skills and a commitment to safeguarding are essential. This is a permanent, term-time role (44 hours per week), with the possibility of on-site accommodation to support the residential nature of the position.
Pay: £26,306.00-£26,722.00 per year
