Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Chef (Catering and Hospitality) to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in food preparation, kitchen management, and team leadership within a fast-paced hospitality environment. Duties
- Prepare and cook a range of dishes to a professional standard, taking a lead on a specific station within the kitchen, so that dishes are of high quality in line with defined menus and recipes/dish designs
- Contribute ideas to developing new dishes and help to cook and prepare new dishes in the development stage, to support the menu development process
- Manage stock through doing stock checks, placing orders as directed, and ensuring all food is stored and labelled correctly, to minimise waste and help control budget expenditure
- Undertake cleaning activities to meet and maintain standards of hygiene and health and safety in accordance with the council's code of practice and external legislation
- Assist in ensuring the team's services are responsive to community needs and that equal opportunity and health and safety issues are identified and addressed effectively
Qualifications
- Level 3 qualification in professional cookery, catering and hospitality or equivalent or willing to work towards
- Level 2 qualification in professional cookery, catering, and hospitality, or equivalent. Intermediate food hygiene certificate
- Trained in First Aid
- Experience in professional catering kitchen environments, including banqueting and large-scale catering
- Understanding of kitchen equipment and operations
- Knowledge of standards and regulations relevant to food hygiene and health and safety
- Knowledge of stock control processes and procedures
- Knowledge about the dietary needs for specific groups and needs, such as the elderly. Such as experience with texture modified diets
- Ability to prioritise tasks and activities to meet orders and needs. Ability to communicate with others in a clear, efficient, and courteous manner
- This role does not have any direct management requirements but may provide supervision and guidance to more junior catering staff
- This role does not manage a budget but holds some responsibility in monitoring expenditure
- Planning focus is weighted towards short-term kitchen operations, on an hourly and daily basis
Working Conditions
Aspects of the role that have a material impact on the nature of the job, once all reasonable actions have been taken to moderate or eliminate them:
- The role has a requirement for a moderate level of physical exertion when moving furniture or pushing food trolleys etc
- The role has frequent exposure to environmental conditions that cause moderate discomfort for defined periods (typically relatively short), when working in a catering role which will also include carrying out cleaning duties in a care setting. There is some ability to control or minimise this exposure including the use of PPE
- The role needs to maintain vigilance/alertness and concentration for short periods in the face of a mild to moderate level of distraction and challenging environment to ensure accuracy and safety
- The role has infrequent exposure to some mildly challenging behaviour or instances of confrontation, from service users, will have the ability to remove themselves from the exposure or situation as the role is working in a kitchen within a care setting
