We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Area Cleaning Manager to join our operational management team and lead a portfolio of cleaning contracts across Hackney and neighbouring boroughs.
The Role
As an Area Cleaning Manager, you will have responsibility for the day-to-day management of a portfolio of sites, ensuring the highest standards of cleaning service delivery, customer satisfaction and operational performance.
You will lead and support an Area Cleaning Supervisor and approximately 80 cleaning operatives across up to 30 locations, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget.
This is a hands-on management role requiring a visible presence across sites, strong leadership skills and the ability to build positive relationships with customers, staff and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage cleaning operations across a portfolio of educational and public sector sites.
· Lead, motivate and develop operational teams to deliver outstanding service standards.
· Monitor contract performance, staffing levels and service quality.
· Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies and cleaning best practice.
· Manage recruitment, induction, training and performance management processes.
· Monitor budgets and control expenditure to achieve financial targets.
· Conduct regular site inspections and audits, implementing corrective actions where required.
· Build strong relationships with Headteachers, site managers, clients and other stakeholders.
· Investigate and resolve service issues, complaints and operational challenges.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in business development and service enhancement projects.
· Assist with the mobilisation of new contracts and implementation of operational changes.
· Deputise for senior operational managers as required.
About You
We are looking for an experienced cleaning professional who can demonstrate:
· Significant experience managing multi-site cleaning operations.
· Experience leading and developing large teams in a cleaning, facilities management or soft FM environment.
· Strong knowledge of cleaning standards, quality assurance and compliance requirements.
· Excellent people management, communication and customer relationship skills.
· Financial awareness and experience managing budgets and resources.
· Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and make sound operational decisions.
· Experience handling employee relations matters including attendance, performance and investigations.
· Strong IT skills and experience producing reports and performance data.
· A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements
· Recognised cleaning qualification (e.g. BICSc) or willingness to work towards one.
· Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across operational sites.
· Understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
· Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
· Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet operational needs.
· Experience in managing the cleaning of educational settings, overseeing deep cleans and managing operatives working weeks to meet requirements.
