Keep Life-Critical Systems Running. Make a Real Difference.
Are you a skilled engineer who wants more than just turning up and turning a spanner? Join HJS (Harrold-Jones Services), part of the Ventro Group, and take on a field-based role where your expertise genuinely matters. The systems you maintain keep vulnerable people safe – warden call units in sheltered housing, door entry to healthcare facilities, and access control across commercial and residential properties. When you fix a fault, real lives are better protected.
We’re a growing, connected team that values independence and trust. You’ll have the autonomy to manage your own day, your own van, and your own workload – backed by a supportive office team and colleagues who’ll share knowledge and have your back when you need it. No micromanagement. Just high standards and the freedom to do the job properly.
Why This Role?
Work That Actually Matters: Every system you maintain is life-critical. Warden call systems protect elderly and vulnerable residents. Access control secures healthcare facilities. Door entry keeps communities safe. You’re not just fixing boxes – you’re a key part of keeping people protected.
Variety Every Single Day: No two days are the same. You’ll move between healthcare, housing, commercial, and residential sites across the UK, working across leading platforms including Paxton, Tynetec, Tunstall, and Comelit. From reactive call-outs to new installations, you’ll keep your technical skills sharp.
Real Career Development: HJS invests in its engineers. You’ll receive funded manufacturer training, support towards qualifications, and the opportunity to grow your skills across an increasingly broad range of systems. As the team grows, there are real pathways to senior and mentoring roles for those who want them.
Autonomy & Trust: You’ll be trusted to manage your own diary, your van, and your workload. We set high standards, then we let you get on with it. Regular team catch-ups mean you’re never isolated, but day-to-day you’re your own boss on site.
Other benefits include:
Company Vehicle: Fully equipped van with specialist tools and diagnostic equipment provided
Flexible Benefits: Holiday purchase scheme allowing additional time off
Healthcare: Comprehensive healthcare coverage
Employee Referral Programme: Financial incentives for successful candidate referrals
Sustainable Transport: Cycle-to-work scheme supporting environmental initiatives
Company Rewards: Access to employee discount schemes and recognition programmes
Professional Development: Fully funded manufacturer training and role-specific qualifications to support career growth
On-Call Supplement: Additional pay for participation in the out-of-hours on-call rota
What You’ll Do
You’ll carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across door entry, access control, and warden call systems. Working independently across multiple client sites, you’ll diagnose and resolve faults on platforms including Paxton, Tynetec (XT2 and Reach Digital), Tunstall, and Comelit - hitting first-time fix targets and attending warden call callouts within contracted response windows.
You’ll also install and commission new systems – from wiring and containment through to handover documentation – and provide end-user training to clients across healthcare, housing, and commercial settings. Accurate job records, compliance with BS 7671 and health and safety legislation, and a safety-first mindset on every site are central to everything you do.
